A total of two “Vizhuthugal Integrated Service Centres” are set to be established in Ariyalur district in Ariyalur and Jayankondam divisions.Vizhuthugal centres provide rehabilitation services and government welfare assistance for persons with disabilities (PwD) in an integrated service hub.They operate under the Tamil Nadu Rights Project, which is implemented by the Department for the Welfare of Differently Abled Persons with World Bank funding. The scheme facilitates easy access to necessary rehabilitation services and government welfare programmes for 21 categories of PwD.Among the rehabilitation services provided free of charge by experts at these centres are physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and hearing therapy, psychological counselling, special education and vision screening.The centres enable beneficiaries to easily avail various government welfare scheme benefits such as UDID card registration and services for parents and guardians.According to an official press release, in addition to this, Vizhuthugal one-stop service centres have been launched in blocks across Ariyalur district, to provide four types of rehabilitation services to PwD in close proximity to their homes.The one-stop centres have been set up at Ariyalur (Urban) - V.O.C Nagar, Near Draupathi Amman Kovil Street, (Tel: 04329-220697); Ariyalur (Rural) - Government Primary Health Centre (PHC) campus at Kadugur village (Tel:04329-225132); Andimadam - Government PHC campus (Tel: 04331-242240); Jayankondam (Urban) - Community Hall, Jothipuram, Chidambaram Road, Chinnavalayam village (Tel: 04331-260254) and Thirumanur - Community Hall at Palayappadi village (Tel: 04329-223689).Over 80 frontline workers will visit the homes of PwD even in the most remote areas to identify their needs and guide them in accessing the necessary rehabilitation services.More details may be had by contacting the nearest District Differently Abled Welfare Office or One Stop Centre.
