IDAC head Advocate Andrea Johnson was reportedly hospitalised on Monday when she was supposed to appear before the Madlanga Commission.
The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry has suffered a setback, losing a day of proceedings after the head of the Investigative Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC), Advocate Andrea Johnson, called in sick on Monday when she was expected to testify.
President Cyril Ramaphosa had recently extended the commission’s final report deadline to November 16, 2026, from August 31, and the new evidence deadline to October 2, 2026, to allow the commission to conclude topics discussed during hearings. However, one day has already been lost.
On Monday, Advocate Apla Bodlani SC, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) legal representative, told the commission that Johnson had been rushed to hospital.
“The client’s representative (lawyer) was able to talk to the doctor shortly before we convened. We were made to understand that she is with the doctor; she had some serious health-related issues that I am not able to disclose in public, and that she is being attended to,” Bodlani stated.
