Greece signed a contract Monday for the construction of the Skaramagas triple road interchange, a major infrastructure project aimed at easing chronic traffic congestion in western Attica.
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who attended the signing ceremony, described the project as one of the most significant road infrastructure projects currently planned for the Athens metropolitan area. Construction is expected to take 36 months.
Mitsotakis said the interchange would improve links between the Port of Piraeus and the Attiki Odos ring road, enabling heavy vehicles to bypass the existing road network while supporting the continued growth of logistics and freight operations in the area.
He said the project is part of the government’s broader infrastructure program, which also includes the completion of the E65 motorway, the Northern Road Axis of Crete and the Thessaloniki Flyover, as well as other initiatives aimed at reducing traffic congestion across the capital.
Previous reports said the project, to be carried out by the METKA-DOMIKI KRITIS consortium, has a budget of 60.49 million euros, with optional works valued at an additional 9.5 million euros, bringing the total potential value to about 70 million euros.
