Counter-terror officers are now leading the investigation into the death of Ann Widdecombe, after “new information and evidence has come to light”, police said.
A 28-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of murdering the former minister and MP, remains in custody and has been rearrested on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism, Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTP) said.
Armed police had arrested a white, British man at a council house in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, on Saturday evening.
Widdecombe, 78, was found dead on Thursday at about 11.40am at her home in Haytor, Devon, more than 260 miles away from the suspect’s home.
