The group stole R800,000 from the burial society.
Four employees of a burial society based in the Eastern Cape have been sentenced in the Mthatha Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on fraud.
Nandipha Mfoboza, 52, Busisiwe Nondudule, 52, Faniswa Nobambela, 44, and Nommiselo Solani, 47, former employees of the Thuso Fund Burial Society, were convicted of fraud.
According to the provincial spokesperson for the Hawks, Warrant Officer Ndiphiwe Mhlakuvana, the group was implicated in a sophisticated internal fraud scheme that resulted in their employer suffering an actual financial prejudice of R800,000.
“The matter originated from a case reported by the complainant on behalf of Thuso Fund Burial Society, headquartered in Orkney, in the North West Province, and was subsequently referred to the Hawks for further investigation,” Mhlakuvana said.
