Disabled people say they fear being used as “political ammunition” to win over voters as the disability benefit PIP is earmarked for reform.
An interim report from disabilities minister Sir Stephen Timms, found the PIP system “not fit for purpose” and is failing to keep pace with how disability, health and work have changed over the past decade.
Timms told The i Paper the current assessment process was “demeaning and dehumanising” and it is likely to be replaced with a new system which is “radically different” – although it is thought that for conditions such as ADHD and autism, the rules might be tightened.
