MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang has defended the appointment of former Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman as chair and chief executive officer (CEO) of the state-owned Al-Amanah Islamic Investment Bank of the Philippines (AAIIBP), saying she remains presumed innocent despite allegations linking her to the massive flood control corruption scandal exposed last year.
“There is nothing wrong with appointing someone whom the President believes can do the job well,” Palace press officer Claire Castro said Monday during a press briefing.
