At a time when there’s a growing focus on health and wellbeing, it is no surprise that wellness tourism is on the rise. On one small Gulf island, though, plans are in motion to make self-care not merely a temporary vacation, but a way of life.
Slated to fully open in 2029, Fahid Island in Abu Dhabi is a development of more than 6,000 homes that promises future residents a coastal neighborhood that will be built from the ground up to enhance the physical and mental wellbeing of its occupants.
The 40-billion-UAE-dirham ($10.9 billion) project is led by Aldar Development, a real estate development company owned by the Abu Dhabi government. Aldar says that all infrastructure, services and amenities are geared toward creating a fitness-dedicated “sanctuary.”
“We’ve made sure that every single design decision and commercial decision has always looked at the product through the lens of wellness,” Aldar Development senior vice president Emma McCreery Breen told CNN.
