Toa Samoa, Rugby league
Payne Haas has reaffirmed his commitment to Toa Samoa and believes the team has a strong chance of winning its first Rugby League World Cup title.
According to the Australian Associated Press, Haas dismissed reports that he was considering switching back to Australia for the 2026 tournament, saying he would not turn his back on Samoa after committing to the national side last year.
“I made my decision last year to move to Samoa from Australia,” Haas said. “The kind of person I am, I wouldn’t back flip on them. I want to represent my mum, my grandmother and my granddad as well, and there is no way in hell that I would.”
Haas, who has Samoan heritage through his mother, Joan Haas, previously played four Tests for Australia before joining Toa Samoa for the Pacific Championships.
