Ms Burrell was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive brain tumour, in June 2022, which typically carries a life expectancy of 12-18 months. Despite her prognosis, she lived to see significant life events, including her son's first day at school and her wedding earlier this year. Following her diagnosis, Burrell became a vocal advocate for increased government funding and research into brain tumours, becoming a patron of Brain Tumour Research in 2023. Glioblastoma is an incurable disease with no significant treatment advancements in two decades, affecting around 3,200 people in the UK annually.
