The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has welcomed the release of the abducted Oyo State schoolchildren and their teachers, describing their safe return as "worthy of thanksgiving."
Obi, however, warned that the recurring abduction of pupils across Nigeria exposes the country's deepening security crisis.
The former Anambra State governor, in a statement reacting to the release of victims after spending 55 days in captivity, expressed relief over the rescue operation and commended the security personnel and others involved in securing the victims' freedom.
"The children's safe return is worthy of thanksgiving,” Obi wrote in the statement shared on X (formerly Twitter).
