Barcelona paid roughly €55 million to bring Koundé from Sevilla in 2022. He has been one of the most versatile players on the roster, slotting in at both center-back and right-back depending on the tactical need. His contract was extended through 2030 just months before the club placed him on the transfer list.
Barcelona’s recent signing of Anthony Gordon added significant cost to an already strained wage bill. La Liga enforces strict financial controls, and clubs that exceed their salary limits face restrictions on registering new players. Listing Koundé at a price range starting at €60 million means the club is hoping to turn a profit on a player acquired for €55 million. A longer contract gives Barcelona more leverage over potential buyers, since Koundé cannot walk away for free, meaning interested clubs must meet Barcelona’s asking price.
