It’s been less than a decade since women were allowed to take on any role in the British military. Gradually, more are passing elite courses, and since this year there is now a woman in every rank of the British Army.

As it adapts to a more female-friendly force, the British military has recently rolled out combat clothing designed to better fit women, including maternity camouflage, sports bra fittings and Bergen military backpacks with curved straps to fit better over women’s chests.

But there is still a glaring hole in the provisions made for servicewomen – one that could potentially put lives at risk.
