Doctor and football coach Dr Xanti Pupuma has delivered top-flight football to Milford FC

It is not every day in the Premier Soccer League that a head coach can legitimately tell one of his players: "Umfanami, I brought you into this world, and I can take you out of this match."

But Dr Xanti Pupuma, the visionary head coach and chairman of Milford FC, is one of those rare individuals who somehow finds the time to do it all — including sleep.

As a specialist gynaecologist by profession, Pupuma spends his daylight hours delivering babies. Then, the moment he has a sliver of spare time, he transitions to the training pitch, masterminding his club's remarkable rise into the top flight of South African football.

Operating on a punishing three-to-five-hour sleep schedule, practising medicine and coaching a professional football team is enough to shatter the nerves of the average person. Yet, the proud Eastern Cape-born tactician always finds a way to get it done.
