Pat Lambie is backing former Sharks teammate JP Pietersen to succeed at the Durban franchise.
Sharks legend Pat Lambie is convinced the Durban-based franchise is on the right track under the stewardship of head coach JP Pietersen, predicting a major revival if the union can foster a healthy team culture and prioritise homegrown KwaZulu-Natal talent.
Few are better qualified to comment on the cultural blueprint required to restore the Sharks to their former glories than Lambie, who spent the vast majority of his life in and around the Kings Park environs.
Indeed, some of Lambie’s earliest childhood memories are of running barefoot on the post-match outer fields in Durban. His grandfather, Nic Labuschagne, represented Natal and served as president of the Natal Rugby Union, whilst his father, Ian, pulled on the fullback jersey for the province during the 1980s.
Lambie went on to make 101 senior appearances for the Sharks between 2009 and 2017, playing a substantial portion of his career alongside his former teammate Pietersen.
