The Nigerian government has announced that 39 more Nigerian nationals were evacuated from South Africa on Friday, July 10, as part of ongoing emergency efforts to bring home citizens affected by the ongoing xenophobic attacks in the country.
The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who made this known in a statement, said the additional evacuation was arranged to ensure that Nigerians who could not board an earlier flight were safely returned home.
According to the minister, the emergency operation was facilitated by Air Peace to prevent any disruption to the Federal Government's evacuation programme.
She said, "39 Nigerian Nationals are on a flight back from Johannesburg to Lagos on emergency travel arrangements facilitated by Air Peace in order to accommodate those unable to return on yesterday's flight.
