According to Onanuga, the latest evacuation comes after the Federal Government last week brought home 66 Nigerians, most of them women and children described as being in particularly vulnerable conditions.

The Nigerian government has commenced another round of evacuations for its citizens stranded in South Africa following renewed xenophobic protests and threats targeting foreign nationals in the country.

The presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga disclosed the development in a statement, saying President Bola Tinubu had ordered the fresh evacuation exercise to ensure the safety of Nigerians affected by the escalating anti-immigrant demonstrations.

According to Onanuga, the latest evacuation comes after the Federal Government last week brought home 66 Nigerians, most of them women and children described as being in particularly vulnerable conditions.

The returnees arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on June 24 aboard a government-funded evacuation flight.
