A major power outage has plunged large parts of Maitama District in Abuja into darkness after the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) stated that land grabbers invaded one of its critical electricity substations and damaged key power infrastructure.

In a public notice issued on Friday, AEDC said it was forced to suspend electricity supply from its C2 Maitama Injection Substation following what it described as the unlawful encroachment of the facility by individuals allegedly led by an Assistant Director of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), identified as Mr. Chinedu Okoro

"The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) regrets to inform customers in Maitama and surrounding areas that it is presently unable to supply electricity from its C2 Maitama Substation following the invasion and unlawful encroachment of the facility by land grabbers led by an Assistant Director of FCDA, Mr. Chinedu Okoro," the company said.
