GlobalWafers Co (環球晶圓), the world’s No. 3 silicon wafer supplier, on Thursday said that it is gearing up for new capacity expansion in the US after securing a 10-year supply agreement from Micron Technology Inc along with US$500 million of strategic funding.It is the most significant supply deal secured in the history of GlobalWafers in terms of financial value and supply duration, the firm said.For Micron, the financial support to GlobalWafers is part of the US memorychip maker’s US$3 billion investment to improve the US semiconductor supply chain ecosystem.
