Russia will remain the backbone of Indian crude oil imports, despite the re-upping of some US sanctions, after Indian refiners had little luck trying to arrange regular purchases of Iranian crude oil given the unpredictability of the US sanctions waiver process and the inability of National Iranian Oil Co. (NIOC) to take control of sales and guarantee stability in supplies, top industry officials told Energy Intelligence.
