The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to use Aadhaar-enabled verification wherever legally permissible, artificial intelligence-assisted matching, facial recognition, GIS-based verification and de-duplication software, along with field verification, to accurately identify duplicate registrations while protecting genuine electors.In a representation submitted to the Chief Election Commissioner, the party said the Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026 presented a historic opportunity to prepare a clean, accurate and legally sustainable electoral roll in accordance with the principle of “One Citizen-One Vote.”The representation signed by MP Vaddiraju Ravichandra, former MP B Vinod Kumar and party’s legal expert Soma Bharat Kumar said the objective of the exercise should be to eliminate duplicate entries rather than disenfranchise genuine voters. It urged the Election Commission to ensure that no name was deleted without due verification and legal procedure.According to the BRS party, its preliminary analysis indicated that suspected duplicate and multiple registrations existed in all 119 Assembly constituencies of the State, warranting comprehensive verification by the Election Commission.The party classified the suspected cases into four categories - multiple registrations within the same Assembly constituency, within the same Parliamentary constituency, across different Assembly constituencies in Telangana, and registrations simultaneously held in Telangana and neighbouring States.The representation claimed that its analysis found an average of about 16,243 suspected duplicate entries in each Assembly constituency, with the number ranging from 2,464 to 53,695 in different constituencies. However, it clarified that these were only suspected cases requiring verification through the statutory process before any deletion could be carried out.The party also highlighted the issue of voters continuing to hold electoral registrations in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh following the bifurcation of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh.
