But it's equally important that we take care of our pets and make sure they're also coping well with the warmer weather.‌While most pet owners will know not to take dogs for a walk when the sun is at its hottest, it's also important to think of ways we can help our feline friends. While cats are generally much better at looking after themselves during hot weather compared to dogs, that doesn’t mean owners can’t help make things a little more comfortable for them.‌To help, one owner from the Cotswolds, who has two cats named Pearl and Louie, has shared her simple 65p hack on how she makes sure her two furry friends stay hydrated in the heat - as it's crucially important for their health, or it could risk them getting potentially-fatal kidney problems.‌Taking to Instagram, where the owner has more than 36,600 followers who who love to follow the lives of Pearl and Louie, she went on to share her simple trick."Easy way to keep your cat hydrated during the heatwave," the overlay text on the video read, as it showed a black and white cat happily drinking from a bowl.Content cannot be displayed without consent‌She went on to hold up a can of tuna steaks in spring water, which her cat was already very interested in. The woman had opted for the Tesco own brand, which costs 65p for a 145g can, but similar products from other brands will work just as well - as long as the tuna is in spring water rather than oil or brine.The woman went on to use a fork to get the tuna chunks and the water into a jug, before filling it up half way with more water. She then used the same fork to give it all a good mix.Once done, she poured some of the liquid and smaller chunks of tuna into a water bowl for her cat to enjoy, allowing him to get plenty of fluids during the hot weather.‌"One can of tuna in spring water, add to a jug of water, and feed in small portions," she wrote in the caption. "Keep it in your fridge covered and let them enjoy throughout the week."Caring for your cat in hot weatherFor the most part, your cat should know if they’re getting too hot, but there are lots of things you can do to make sure they stay cool and don’t overheat.According to Cats Protection, one of the most important things you can do is make sure they stay hydrated by having plenty of water to drink, as well as offering plenty of shady spots for them if they go outside.Article continues belowThey also recommend they should be kept indoors when the sun is at its warmest, usually between 10am and 3pm.You should also encourage them to drink regularly, and have water bowls available outside as well, if you have an outdoor cat. Other ways to keep them drinking more could be to make the water more interesting, such as mixing in some tuna, as some cats are notorious for not drinking enough water as it is.Also make sure the water bowl isn't near their food, as cats often don't like this. Instead offer plenty of water bowls at different places around your home.
