The 14th suspect of the Veeravanallur double murder case was shot at the leg by police after he allegedly attacked a constable with a machete as the police team tried to nab him from his hideout in the forest near Veeravanallur on Friday.The police received information that Krishnan alias Ajith, 28, of Moolachi near Veeravanallur, who is one of the accused in the murder of Kalimuthu, 35, of Veeravanallur and his five-year-old son Jayaraj on July 2, was hiding in the forest near 80 Feet Channel near Veeravanallur.Sub-Inspector Snehan and his team rushed to the spot on Friday morning. The suspect attacked constable Paramasivan with the machete he was carrying, and inflicted a cut injury on his left hand.In a bid to save the constable from further deadly attacks, Mr. Snehan opened fire with his service pistol, in which Krishnan suffered a bullet injury below the left knee. Krishnan was overpowered by the police, and taken to Cheranmahadevi Government Hospital for first-aid, and then rushed to Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital for treatment. His condition is said to be stable.Armed policemen have been deployed in the ward where Krishnan is undergoing treatment.Later, Superintendent of Police Vishwesh Balasubramaniam Shastry visited the injured constable at the hospital.
