NewsUK NewsInquestsLiam White, 25, from Merseyside, had been staying in a dorm with multiple people in Bangkok when he was found dead on January 13 this year, an inquest heard13:48, 10 Jul 2026Updated 13:49, 10 Jul 2026Mystery surrounds the sudden death of a 25-year-old Brit who died in Thailand after a night out.‌Liam White, from Maghull in Merseyside, had been staying at a hostel in Bangkok at the time of his death.‌The joiner had been out the night before he was found dead in Hostel 24 Backpackers 50 in Bang Chak, Bangkok, on January 13 this year, an inquest heard on Wednesday.‌A record of inquest published following a hearing at Bootle Town Hall noted that Mr White had booked the hostel three days earlier and had been staying in a dorm with multiple people.Since his death, there have been two post mortems, each with conflicting views on the cause of death for Mr White, Liverpool Echo reports.A post mortem carried out in Thailand recorded that he died from natural causes - cardiac failure in association with infective pneumonia, the inquest record, written by assistant coroner Elizabeth Wheeler explained.‌However, a UK post mortem has said his cause of death should be listed as unascertained.Ms Wheeler wrote: "The Thai post mortem records the presence of cerebral oedema and brain haemorrhage, but does not outline why these were not part of the cause of death."It records the heart as 'enlarged' but the UK pathologist scale records the heart within normal limits.‌"The UK post mortem did not find the evidence of infection in the lungs which was recorded by the Thai post mortem."The Thai post mortem notes that morphine and codeine were detected in the blood- but the concentrations were not recorded."These drugs can be additive and cause respiratory depression - especially if there was a chest infection.‌"Given the uncertainties and contradictions in the medical evidence, it is therefore not possible to say on the balance of probabilities what the medical cause of death is.
