A good bridesmaid, in my opinion, ensures the bride has everything she wants and needs; brings a verve no sleep deprivation or hangover can hinder; and helps execute the bride’s vision, especially when it comes to wedding-day apparel and glam, head to literal toe. With that in mind — and with more and more of my friends getting engaged — I’m on the hunt for a nude heel to pair with a floor-length navy column dress for my friend’s late-summer country-club wedding.

Similar to a nude bra or panty, the color is not meant to draw eyes here. Function and comfort are key; I want to be able to walk down the aisle without fear of toppling over, then proceed to delight in the dance floor the rest of the night without opting for bare feet. Because I have yet to hem my dress, heel height is up for debate — but I’m probably shooting for something in the 2.5-to-four-inch range — as is style. Pricewise, the goal is to keep it under $200. I inquired with sales associates or filtered by color online, testing shoes in shades ranging from “beige” to “praline” to “French sand.” Slipping into heel after heel, I trusted my initial reactions. Any friction or feelings of unsteadiness? Immediate “no”s. Of course, my final criterion is the bride-to-be’s approval. And so the say-yes-to-the-shoe search commenced.
