Mason Miley, the younger brother of Lewis, has signed his first professional contract with Newcastle United. The 17-year-old midfielder has advanced through the academy ranks at his boyhood club, just as Lewis and Jamie, his older siblings, did previously.Lewis Miley is regarded as one of the finest talents Newcastle have produced over the past 20 years and, although he is currently recovering from a broken leg, is expected to be a key player for Eddie Howe next season. The expectation is that he will assume the No 6 role, which is vacant following Sandro Tonali’s move to Tottenham Hotspur. The younger Miley brother, Mason, played for the under-18s as a 15-year-old and broke into the under-21s last season. He is able to play in midfield and at right-back.
Older brother Jamie progressed through the Newcastle academy before signing for National League side Hartlepool United in January 2025.“Lewis and Jamie have been through it and are both in the professional game,” Mason Miley told the club’s official website. “Lewis is in Newcastle’s first team, so hopefully I can follow in his footsteps in the future. To play with Lewis in a Newcastle United shirt for the first team is one of my ultimate goals.”What type of player is Miley? Bearing the Miley surname heaps pressure on to Mason’s shoulders, but the younger sibling is well regarded within the club and the hope is he will not be phased by Lewis’ rapid rise.Mason Miley is a midfielder, like Lewis, though he is more combative and workmanlike, rather than a technical ball-player.The 17-year-old displayed his versatility when breaking into the under-19 and under-21 set-up last season, too, deputising at right-back.In the short term, continuing his development with Robbie Stockdale’s second string will be Mason Miley’s focus, but clearly he is ambitious and keen to advance into the senior squad in the future. That still feels some way off for now, but seemingly he has the raw ingredients to do just that.
