Image: Antti Kolppo / YleYle News10:05Finland's National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has temporarily suspended its search for a missing Indian engineering student after an unidentified body was recovered from the sea near Kruunuvuorenranta, Helsinki, on Thursday evening.The 18-year-old student has been missing since May. He was last seen in the Kruunuvuorenranta area, where police, assisted by the Helsinki Police Department and the Finnish Border Guard, have carried out extensive searches.Detective Superintendent Olli Töyräs said investigators will first focus on identifying the deceased before deciding whether further searches are necessary."At this stage, it is not appropriate. Very extensive searches have already been carried out on land and in the water. We will first see this through," Töyräs said.Police stressed that they cannot yet confirm whether the body is that of the missing student."We are trying to determine and confirm the identity of the deceased person found at sea and also whether they are the person who was previously reported missing," stated Töyräs.He acknowledged that the body was found in the same area where the student was last seen, adding that this "raises the possibility" the cases are connected.Investigators said identifying the deceased will take time, as a forensic autopsy and other examinations must first be completed.The NBI is investigating the identity of the deceased and the circumstances leading to the person's death. Police said no further information will be released until the investigation has progressed.
