He maintained that governors, as chief security officers of their states, have the responsibility of informing the President about serious security developments.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has defended President Bola Tinubu over allegations that he failed to reach out to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde following the abduction of schoolchildren in Orire Local Government Area, arguing that it was Makinde's responsibility to contact the President first.

Speaking during a media chat on Friday, Wike claimed he could not confirm whether Tinubu called the Oyo governor after the attack but insisted that established protocol required a state governor to brief the President whenever a major security incident occurred.

"I am not in a position to confirm," Wike said while responding to a question on whether Tinubu called Makinde after the abduction of schoolchildren in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

"But if the President did not call Seyi, did Seyi call the head of government about what happened in the state?"
