Lamda Development said Thursday that its new sports park at The Ellinikon is expected to attract about 300,000 visitors by the end of 2026 and roughly 1 million during its first full year of operation in 2027. The company said the first phase of The Ellinikon Sports Park will open on July 20.
Executives said the project required an investment of 100 million euros, fully financed by Lamda Development, and spans 71 acres within the metropolitan park being developed on the site of the former airport in the coastal Athens suburb of Elliniko.
The sports park will be developed in two phases. The first, covering about two-thirds of the site, is being delivered now and will continue to open progressively through the end of the year. The second phase is expected to be completed and open in about two years.
Located on the western side of the redevelopment near Alimos, most of the facilities will be freely accessible to the public. Beginning in September, the park will operate 362 days a year from 8 a.m. to midnight.
The first phase includes an outdoor athletics track and throwing area with seating for 1,070 spectators, four full-size soccer fields, two basketball courts, two tennis courts and a 124-room sports hostel.
