People taking weight-loss jabs should still do physical exercise including strength training to avoid muscle wastage, England’s chief medical officer has said.

In an article for The i Paper, Professor Sir Chris Whitty said those taking the GLP-1 medication should focus on activities that build strength as their weight decreases to protect muscle mass.

It is estimated that around 1.6 million adults in Britain used weight-loss injections such as Wegovy or Mounjaro last year, with their popularity set to soar even higher due to weight-loss pills going on sale in pharmacies for the first time this month.

But there are concerns that some of those taking the drugs may believe they do not need to do exercise as they are losing weight medically.
