When I pack beauty products for a summer holiday, they have to meet two criteria: they must be mini-sized, and multitasking. I bring fewer products when I’m away because I wear so much less. Aside from my skincare essentials, my make-up, accessories and everything else tend to shrink in size, while working a little harder. There are plenty of excellent products available now that tick both boxes while still feeling like a holiday treat. And it’s always nice to throw something new into the mix too – somehow everything feels a little more special when you’re using it on holiday.Sunscreen mistThe product I use most aggressively during the summer is a good sunscreen mist. There are plenty of excellent options depending on your budget or brand preference, but my favourites include Sculpted by Aimee Sun Mist SPF50 Spray (€24 from sculptedbyaimee.com), Solas Spritz Skin SPF50 Hydrating Face Mist (€32.99 from solasskin.ie) from a new Irish suncare brand, and Garnier Ambre Solaire Super UV Over Makeup Sun Protection Face Mist SPF50 (€16 from Boots). All are fine, transparent mists with a dry-touch finish that can be applied to the face and body just as easily over a full face of make-up as on bare skin. A holiday essential that makes reapplication effortless, and helps prevent sun damage and sunburn. The Baby Belle Mini Detangler BrushThe Baby Belle Mini Detangler Brush (€22.50 from thebellebrush.com) A tool I’m using constantly at the moment – and not just on summer holidays – is The Baby Belle Mini Detangler Brush (€22.50 from thebellebrush.com). If you have long hair that inevitably ends up tangled after a day at the beach or pool, or you have little ones who dread having their hair brushed, it’s a revelation.Created by Galway-based beauty entrepreneur Nancy Costello, The Baby Belle features a flexible head and dense, soft bristles that glide through even the most tangled, knotted hair. It doesn’t pull or tug, making the whole process far less painful, while leaving hair smooth and glossy. Compact enough to slip into any handbag or beach tote, and practically weightless, it’s one of those practical beauty buys you’ll use once and then wonder how you ever lived without it. Patchology Hydration 101 KitI always pack sheet masks and under-eye gels when I travel, as I find them phenomenal for cooling and depuffing the skin in a hurry. This month I’ll be bringing Patchology’s Hydration 101 Kit (€18 from millies.ie) – a clever all-in-one set that includes a hydrogel face mask, under-eye patches, and a hydrating lip mask, all in one easy-to-pack pouch. Put everything in the fridge on arrival for an extra cooling boost after a long day in the sun.Merit Solo Shadow Eye ColourHoliday make-up should be quick and uncomplicated, which is why Merit Solo Shadow Eye Colour (Available in 10 shades, €29 from meritbeauty.com) has earned a place in my travel bag. The dry cream-to-powder formula glides on with a fingertip, stays put in the heat and creates an expertly defined eye in seconds: one product, one shade and no brushes required.Sol de Janeiro Jelly Perfume BalmSol De Janeiro Jelly Balm Perfume (€25 each from Brown Thomas). I mentioned these recently as a product of the week, but they are worth including again on your holiday essentials list. As cute as they are functional, Sol de Janeiro’s Jelly Perfume Balms (€25 from Brown Thomas) are the perfect addition to a summer holiday beauty bag. They sidestep liquid allowances thanks to their solid jelly format and, according to the brand, deliver up to 1,000 applications. Available in three scents, they can be clipped on to your handbag or tossed into your suitcase . The jelly balm isn’t sticky, leaves no residue and makes topping up your fragrance throughout the day incredibly easy.Dyson HushJet Mini Cool FanDyson HushJet Mini Cool Fan (€99.99 from dyson.ie) Perhaps it’s a sign of my ever-increasing age, but I am very partial to a handheld fan. I’ve packed one on countless holidays over the years, usually a budget version that would somehow survive the trip before inexplicably falling apart.Dyson has entered the category with gusto. Perfectly sized and surprisingly powerful, the Dyson HushJet Mini Cool Fan (€99.99) is ideal for anyone who struggles with the heat or needs to cool down quickly. It’s particularly useful when travelling with babies or young children, offering five airflow levels while remaining exceptionally lightweight. It even comes with a stand so it can sit neatly on a restaurant table or bedside locker. This week I’m loving ... Rhode Caffeine Reset MaskRhode Caffeine Reset Mask (€50 from rhodeskin.com) Designed to tackle puffiness and boost hydration, Rhode Caffeine Reset Mask (€50 from rhodeskin.com) is at the top of my skincare hit list this week. The thick, creamy formula delivers an instant cooling sensation, leaving skin looking fresher and more sculpted. At first, I had a gripe about the product’s size and its €50 price tag, but a little goes a long way. One small scoop spreads easily across the face, making each pot last much longer than expected. A great quick fix for tired, dehydrated skin.
