New Delhi, July 9: A proposal to establish a club of eminent scientists from the non-aligned developing countries for making futuristic studies of the development pattern of the Third World is being mooted by some top scientists here.According to informed sources, the idea is to set up an institution like the “Club of Rome” where eminent scientists from the developing non-aligned countries could continuously study problems concerning the Third World and projections of growth in various fields such as economic development, population, agriculture and technology.There is a feeling among scientists in developing countries that projections made by prestigious groups like the “Club of Rome” often tend to ignore realities in the developing countries as they, being supported by the developed countries, look at the problems of developing countries from the perspectives of the developed countries. Some of the projections made by the “Club of Rome” set up with financial support from the developed countries on the pattern of growth and development in the world, are being hotly contested by scientists of the Third World.
