Wayne Rooney looks like a whole new man - and fans watching his World Cup punditry have noticed it too19:25, 09 Jul 2026Man United legend-turned-footie pundit Wayne Rooney has had a noticeable glow-up since the World Cup started.‌He once quipped that he’s been cruelly compared to Shrek - but fans have noticed a total transformation in recent weeks, as the 40-year-old gives his opinion on all the latest World Cup action.‌Fans of the sporting star, who has had two £30,000 hair transplants after admitting he ‘went bald’ at just 25, have noticed he looks more refreshed, youthful and slimmer, after a supposed rehaul of his lifestyle.‌It’s thought Rooney is now following a Macro diet, which tracks your daily intake of the three essential macronutrients — proteins, fats, and carbohydrates — rather than simply counting calories. And it seems he has also found a whole new wardrobe for his small screen appearances this summer - a source telling the Mail that he has even been working with a stylist to perfect his new look.‌‘Wayne is not a fashionista like his wife”, they claimed. “He grew up wearing tracksuits and still loves to wear them today but that isn’t possible on television. So with a little bit of help he has spruced his clothes up.”Even presenter Gabby Logan has teased Rooney on-air about how much he loved US manager Mauricio Pochettino ’s clothes. And as for the fresh face, Dr Ross Perry, Medical Director of Cosmedics Skin Clinics says of his glow-up: “Based purely on recent appearances, it's possible he may have benefited from some subtle non-surgical aesthetic treatments.”‌The cosmetic expert adds, “His forehead appears smoother while still retaining natural movement, which could be consistent with conservative anti-wrinkle injections such as Botox.“His skin also looks brighter and more even in tone, something we commonly see following treatments such as medical-grade skincare, chemical peels, laser resurfacing or skin-boosting injectable treatments.‌“The overall effect is what we call a 'tweakment' rather than a transformation. Modern aesthetic treatments are increasingly about looking well-rested and refreshed rather than changing someone's appearance dramatically.“Combined with good grooming, flattering television lighting, weight management and his previous hair transplant, these subtle interventions can create a noticeable but natural-looking glow-up.”Of course, Wayne’s other half, Coleen has long appeared comfortable with subtle tweakments - and was praised by fans for her natural beauty in the I’m A Celeb jungle in 2024.‌Says Dr Perry, “Her look is natural, though. There’s still natural movement, particularly around the brows, which is typically what good practitioners aim for. The crow’s feet area is softened rather than erased, indicating a light-handed approach.”The couple, who were childhood sweethearts before going on to marry and have four sons together, may even have gone for the so-called “His and Hers” Effect.“It’s increasingly common for couples to undergo treatments together- sometimes dubbed “tweakments for two.””, says Dr Perry. “When done well when results are subtle, refreshed, and age-appropriate and faces look rested rather than altered.Article continues below“Good aesthetic work should leave people wondering if you’ve “had a good holiday,” not necessarily pinpointing a procedure. Maybe they have had a good holiday - or maybe they have had a bit of help!”Like this story?
