The European Commission is proposing tough measures to reduce imports from illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank.
According to Ukrinform, Politico reported this.
The European Commission developed these policy proposals at the request of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas.
A confidential EU executive document seen by Politico says that "strengthened enforcement may reduce imports from settlements channelled into the EU in violation of existing rules, without requiring new EU legal instruments."
Among the ideas under consideration are an import licensing system, under which goods from illegal settlements would require special permission to be exported to the EU; tariffs targeting goods originating in settlements; or a complete ban on imports from illegal settlements.
