As the All-Star break approaches, the number of pitchers recording saves has not slowed. Through July 8, 191 have posted at least one save this season:Saves comparison through July 8 (2024-2026)YearGamesSavesSave% of WinsRPs w/saveRPs > 4 SavesRPs > 9 SavesRPs > 14 SavesRPs > 19 Saves20262,77270550.9191382212620252,75268749.9148392518620242,72469250.81513826156While the number of relievers with at least 10 saves is nearing the numbers of the previous two seasons, a disparity remains between this year and last year in the number of relievers with at least 15 saves. With the trade deadline is just over three weeks away, closing this gap could be challenging.Roles getting turned over or teams deploying matchup-based approaches are also contributing factors to fantasy managers’ frustrations in chasing saves this season. Since my last post, more changes have occurred at the backend of bullpens:

Baltimore Orioles: Ryan Helsley was placed on the 15-day injured list, and Tyler Wells has emerged as the preferred save option, recording two since Helsey’s designation. Helsley is seeking a second opinion regarding his elbow soreness, which puts his status and potential return into flux.

Chicago Cubs: Craig Counsell keeps reliever roles close to the chest, and though it seemed like Jacob Webb would be the preferred option, he has shared saves with Trent Thornton. This makes it difficult for those in shallow formats, but those in deep leagues can stream them for save chances until Daniel Palencia returns from the injured list.
