Celtic FC is about to wrap up a £6 million deal for Colombian forward Camilo Duran, with the 24-year-old already training alongside his prospective new teammates at the club’s pre-season camp in Portugal. Duran joined Qarabag FK in August 2025 for a reported £200,000 from Portuguese side Portimonense. Now, less than a year later, the Azerbaijani club is set to pocket roughly £5.5 million upfront, with add-ons potentially pushing the total to £6 million. That’s a return of roughly 27x on their initial investment.
During the 2025-26 season at Qarabag, the forward bagged 15 goals across all competitions, including standout performances in the Champions League against the likes of Benfica and Newcastle. Born on February 10, 2002, Duran’s career trajectory has taken him through Colombia’s youth system, a brief loan stint at Flamengo’s U20 setup, and then to Portugal before landing in Azerbaijan. His estimated market value sat at around €2 million before the Celtic deal materialized, making this transfer a significant premium.
Celtic manager Martin O’Neill has signaled that Duran will be the club’s first signing of the summer window, with a medical reportedly scheduled around July 7-8. O’Neill has also indicated this is just the opening move in what could be a busy transfer period for the Scottish champions.
