Forest personnel have successfully caged a stray sloth bear near Kadayam in Tenkasi district. After the locals spotted recently stray sloth bears in a few forest boundary hamlets under the Ambur Beat, the forest personnel kept a cage at Sankarapandiapuram village. After an 8-year-old sloth bear was caged around 12.15 a.m. on Thursday, forest veterinarian Manoharan screened the animal, which was healthy and did not carry any injury. The highly charged-up animal damaged the metal floor of the cage. When the forest personnel immediately covered the gap with a net, the sloth bear dragged the net from inside after casually neutralising the best efforts of two forest personnel, who tried to tie the net.Fortunately, the messed-up net got plugged in the gap and prevented the animal from further making the gap wide. After comprehensive screening of the sloth bear, it was taken to the dense jungles of Kodamaadi area beyond Servalar Dam in Kalakkad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve and released on Thursday afternoon.
