Representatives from scheduled commercial banks and Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs) were educated on the new Labour Codes in an awareness session organised by the Office of the Deputy Chief Labour Commissioner (Central), Chennai, in Coimbatore on Thursday.District Revenue Officer S. Madhuranthagi inaugurated the session which was organised under the aegis of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, in coordination with the Lead Bank Office, Canara Bank, Coimbatore. She emphasised the importance of strict compliance with labour laws for achieving sustainable and inclusive industrial growth.Srinu Dara, Deputy Chief Labour Commissioner (Central), Chennai, said that all financial institutions, including those governed by State rules, fall under the ambit of the new Labour Codes - Code on Wages, 2019; Code on Social Security, 2020; Industrial Relations Code, 2020; and Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020.Shylaja K.R., Deputy General Manager and Regional Head, Canara Bank, Coimbatore Region, stressed the importance of employer awareness and compliance with the new Labour Codes in promoting responsible workplace practices.Mr. Dara and Ramesh Kumar T.J., Labour Enforcement Officer (Central), Coimbatore, led technical sessions for the participants and explained the salient features of the four Labour Codes and the statutory obligations of employers under the new legal framework.Karthikeyan P., Lead District Manager, Canara Bank, Coimbatore, also spoke.
