Four new labour codes have simplified the complex and overlapping labour legislation. The labour codes were developed after years of deliberation, said Regional Labour Commissioner (Central), Madurai, Pravin Pandi Mohandas, here on Friday.
Addressing the gathering at the orientation programme organised by the Press Information Bureau for journalists and students of journalism, Mr. Pravin spoke on the topic ‘Decoding the new labour codes: A path to modern compliance’.
He said that with the four new labour codes: The Code on Wages, 2019; The Code on Social Security, 2020; The Industrial Relations Code, 2020; The Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions (OSH) Code, 2020; the reforms aimed to simplify compliance, expand coverage and modernise the labour law framework. Multiple laws were replaced by a simplified uniform framework.
Post the labour reforms, it was mandatory to issue appointment letters to the employees, a written proof to ensure transparency, job security and formal employment.
All employees get social security coverage, statutory right of minimum wage payment and timely wage payment. Employers should provide mandatory free annual health check up for employees, he said.
