Manchester United is pushing hard to sign French midfielder Manu Kone from AS Roma in a deal worth approximately £50 million. The move comes after the club failed to land Real Madrid’s Aurélien Tchouameni, leaving a midfield-shaped hole in their summer transfer plans that they’re now racing to fill.
United may not be Kone’s first choice. The midfielder has reportedly already agreed personal terms with Arsenal, which makes this less of a straightforward recruitment and more of a bidding war where one side might be fighting uphill.
The INEOS green light and the race for Kone
United’s INEOS-led ownership has given formal approval to finalize the Kone deal, signaling that the club’s new decision-makers are willing to commit serious capital to reshaping the midfield. The £50M price tag is significant but not outlandish for a proven international midfielder in today’s Premier League transfer market.
Intermediaries have already initiated contact with multiple Premier League clubs on Kone’s behalf, and Arsenal’s reported interest creates genuine competition.
