Jordan’s air defences were forced to shoot down five Iranian missiles, in a major escalation for the war and in revenge for two nights of US strikes on Iran.‌There were reports of Iranian missiles targeting US navy ships in the Strait of Hormuz as near all-out war broke out after US President Trump declared the ceasefire “over.” Israeli forces are on high-alert for Iranian attacks and have held emergency meetings with ministers over the crisis. It followed US strikes on Iranian military posts across the country’s southern coastline as the US also took out military sites, bridges, airstrips and even the perimeter of a nuclear site.‌US President Donald Trump said during a flight on Air Force One that Iran had made overtures to the US, claiming: “They called a little while ago. They want to make a deal so badly.” And asked about the 90 Iranian sites targeted on his orders, he said: “It was really retribution." Iranian air defence systems sounded around the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, 600 miles south of Tehran warning of a possible US missile attack and explosions were heard there.‌Sources said US forces have unleashed Tomahawk cruise missiles at the air defences placed around the atomic complex. Iran’s medium-range ballistic missiles targeted the US Ali Al Salem airbase in Kuwait, where US and UK RAF personnel are based and Jordan’s Muwaffaq Salti air base. It is also believed Iranian missiles were aimed at a US base in Erbil, northern Iraq, where several hundred UK armed forces personnel are based. The mayhem unfolded as crowds of thousands marked the week-long funeral of slain Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei across Iraq and Iran.Tehran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has confirmed that it launched retaliatory strikes on US military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain overnight, and called them the "first phase of the punitive response against the American treaty-breakers". The escalation happened as the US and Iran exchanged missiles for a second night in the row this week and US President Donald Trump saying the ceasefire was over.In an astonishing outburst at the NATO conference in Turkey, the US President branded Tehran’s regime “scum” and declared the ceasefire with Iran was “over.” Among the targets for last night’s renewed US attack were several bridges within Iran, including the Aq Qala Bridge, a rail link in the north which carries trade to and from Russia. Iran's Ministry of Health says 14 people have been killed during this latest round of fighting.
