Former NBA player and Atlanta Hawks general manager Landry Fields has joined global basketball league Project B to help build its roster ahead of the first games in January 2027. As head of men’s basketball, Fields will work with chief basketball officer Alana Beard.

“We’re building a long-term sustainable talent pipeline that will enable us to play elite basketball year in and year out,” Fields said in an email. “We’re investing in culture setters, elite international talent and rising global stars. Talent is essential, and we’re equally focused on character, leadership and athletes who want to help grow the game.”

Fields spent five years in the NBA as a player before serving as Atlanta’s GM from 2021 to 2025. Most recently, he worked as Overtime Elite’s president of league operations.

Project B has already inked WNBA stars Nneka Ogwumike, Alyssa Thomas, Azzi Fudd, Awa Fam, Sophie Cunningham and Kelsey Mitchell. The league has yet to announce men’s players, though Landry said the competition is expected to include teenagers as well as veterans who have had lengthy NBA careers. International players will likely make up a sizable portion of the rosters.

Unlike in the WNBA, NBA players are specifically prohibited from competing in other leagues. Fields said that players’ compensation would be competitive with the NBA and other international leagues, with equity part of the pitch.
