Michal Bartek must publish a Facebook apology after court ruling, but says he is considering an appeal.

Hlas MP Michal Bartek must apologise to six former National Crime Agency (NAKA) investigators and their lawyer Peter Kubina after a court ruled that his public accusations damaged their reputations.

The District Court in Trenčín decided on Thursday, 9 July, that Bartek crossed the line with comments made in a Facebook video last November, according to SME. In the video, he suggested that the group surrounding investigator Ján Čurilla had selected a judge who would rule in their favour in a dispute involving Interior Minister and Hlas party leader Matúš Šutaj Eštok.

Bartek described the process as if the officers and their lawyer had chosen a judge “from a catalogue” to determine the outcome of the case in advance.

“Čurilla and his go-to lawyer Kubina picked a judge as if from a catalogue — a loyal one from the progressive camp — so they would know in advance how it would turn out,” Bartek said in his post.
