Six police investigators are seeking damages and an apology over comments they say falsely linked them to organised crime.
An appeals court has reignited a high-profile defamation case involving Interior Minister Matúš Šutaj Eštok and several police investigators, known for their roles in major anti-corruption investigations.
The latest decision overturns a previous default judgment against the minister, according to Aktuality.sk.
Judges at the Bratislava Regional Court have ruled the case should go to a full hearing, handing Šutaj Eštok the chance to contest allegations brought by six investigators led by Ján Čurilla.
“While we are disappointed by the appeals court’s decision, we view it as an evolution — or perhaps more accurately, a revolution — in the way default judgments are applied,” the investigator’s lawyer, Peter Kubina, said.
