The Centre for Digital Education is producing a series of videos on MANIM for the Finite Elements course. The Centre for Digital Education is continuing to develop audiovisual resources designed to enhance teaching at EPFL. As part of this initiative, we are welcoming Florentin Julien and Stefano Burzio to record a series of videos on the use of MANIM, an animation library particularly well-suited to visualising scientific and mathematical concepts.These videos will accompany the Finite Elements course, taught by François Gallaire and Stefano Burzio, which bridges the gap between numerical analysis and structural mechanics. The finite element method is now an indispensable tool in engineering for solving complex problems, whether involving heat transfer, vibrations, mechanical deformations or other physical phenomena.The aim of this series is to use animation to aid understanding. Thanks to MANIM, often abstract concepts (such as the transition from the strong to the weak formulation, the discretisation of a domain, shape functions, the assembly of stiffness matrices, or even the principle of the Galerkin method) can be presented in a step-by-step and intuitive manner.By combining educational expertise, video production and scientific visualisation, this project aims to provide supplementary resources that will enable students to gain a better understanding of the mechanisms underlying the finite element method, both during lessons and in their independent study.Filming is taking place in the studios of the Centre for Digital Education, where the various sequences that will make up this new series of educational videos will be produced.
