Bilibili Gaming’s star bot laner Viper just did something nobody expected at the 2026 Mid-Season Invitational. He locked in Taliyah, a champion traditionally played in the mid lane or jungle, as his bot lane carry in a major international tournament.
For the uninitiated: picking Taliyah bot is roughly equivalent to a chess grandmaster opening with a move that every textbook says is wrong, and then winning anyway. The bot lane in professional League of Legends has been dominated by traditional marksmen for over a decade. Mage picks in that role are considered fringe at best, trolling at worst.
Viper’s history of breaking the meta
This isn’t Park Do-hyeon’s first rodeo when it comes to unconventional selections. His career-long tendency toward off-meta bot lane mages traces back to his time on Griffin during the 2019 LCK Spring Playoffs, where he first demonstrated a willingness to deviate from the standard marksman playbook, popularizing picks like Viktor and Taliyah in the bot lane.
After joining BLG in December 2025 and transitioning back to the LPL, Viper has mostly played traditional picks like Ashe and Mel throughout this MSI cycle. That makes the Taliyah selection even more jarring.
