Nottingham Forest has officially entered the race for one of European football’s most coveted young defenders, tabling a €17.5 million bid for Feyenoord right-back Givairo Read. Feyenoord rejected the offer, valuing Read at over €30 million.
The bid, the rejection, and the plan to try again
Forest’s opening bid landed around July 8-9, 2026, and Feyenoord wasted little time rejecting it. The Premier League club isn’t backing down though, with reports indicating they plan to return with an improved offer.
Read is under contract until June 2029 after signing an extension in April 2025, giving Feyenoord significant leverage. Manchester City and Bayern Munich have both registered interest in Read, turning this into a multi-club bidding situation.
Read earned the Johan Cruyff Talent of the Month award in April 2025 and scored his first Eredivisie goal in May 2025. He began his career in FC Volendam’s youth academy before joining Feyenoord in 2023, where he secured a starting position during the 2024–25 season after overcoming competition from more established defenders.
