A 20MW data center could be coming to southwest Kansas.Parsons city commission last week voted to approve a purchase option agreement with HyperDataGrid.HyperDataGrid is looking to buy around 20 acres of land in the Tolen Creek Industrial Park on which it aims to develop a 20MW data center.First announced in June, the agreement gives the company time to conduct due diligence around the project. Construction would require separate approval.Parsons is a city in Labette County, in the southeast corner of Kansas, some 55 miles northwest of Joplin, Missouri.Clay Roberts of HyperDataGrid told city commissioners the company intends to be “as upfront and as transparent as we possibly can” when it comes to its plans and engagement with the city and residents, and aims to ensure it is a “successful partnership.”Texas-based HyperDataGrid aims to develop high-density liquid-cooled data centers. The company says its facilities will use closed-loop systems and direct-to-chip cooling that can support up to 600kW per rack. On its website, the firm says it could bring its 20MW facilities online within 12 months.Beyond Kansas, the company lists plans for two developments in Texas, with few further details available.“We are excited about the opportunity to come to Parsons. We look forward to working alongside the City, its residents, and community leaders to help advance their goals and to prove ourselves as a committed civic partner," Josh May of HyperDataGrid said in the June announcement.
