Chelsea FC just locked down one of European football’s most exciting young talents. Geovany Quenda, the 19-year-old right-winger from Sporting CP, has completed his £40 million move to Stamford Bridge on an eight-year contract running through 2034.
The deal that was months in the making
This transfer didn’t happen overnight. Chelsea and Sporting CP reached an agreement in principle back on March 14, 2025, meaning Quenda has essentially known he was Chelsea-bound for over a year. Rather than rushing the move, the clubs agreed to let the young winger stay at Sporting for the remainder of the 2025/26 season, giving him another full campaign of first-team football before making the jump to the Premier League. The deal was officially completed on July 8, 2026.
Born on April 30, 2007, in Bissau, Guinea-Bissau, Quenda came through Sporting’s academy system — the same academy that carries Cristiano Ronaldo’s name. Quenda has been vocal about admiring the Portuguese legend, which makes sense when you consider the path Ronaldo himself once walked from Sporting to global superstardom.
Quenda’s playing style draws comparisons to Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka. Left-footed and naturally positioned on the right wing, Quenda mirrors Saka’s ability to cut inside, create chances, and still track back defensively. He has been recognized for his pressing intensity and tactical awareness.
