Novo Nordisk India is rolling out Awiqli – a weekly once basal insulin, for adults with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes mellitus. The product reduces the insulin regimen from once-daily to once-weekly – or 365 shots to 52.Vikrant Shrotriya, Managing Director, Novo Nordisk India told businessline that 217 patients from India were part of the global trials, and India is the seventh market that it is being launched. The product will be imported from Denmark, he said, and is priced at ₹2611 for a 1 ml pen (700 insulin units). With 70 units weekly, the pen lasts for 10 weeks or 2.5 months. A 3 ml pen is priced at ₹7883 (2100 insulin units).In the global ONWARDS-1 clinical programme, Awiqli showed benefits on its HbA1c reduction and time in range compared with once-daily glargine U100, the company said. “Awiqli (insulin icodec) injection 700 units/mL is a prescription medicine and the first and only once-weekly basal insulin approved for adults with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes mellitus,” the company said.
